There are two awards nights: one held in September for first-semester sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and one held in June prior to graduation, restricted to seniors. The latter is known as "Senior/Parent Recognition Night."
The main awards night honors students who have achieved the highest average in a particular class, along with scholarship recipients and winners of special awards (e.g. the Rensselaer Medal). Similar awards are conferred at the Senior/Parent Recognition Night, but trophies are also given to all senior athletes, and the salutatorian gives his/her speech near the end of the ceremony. Footage of the Senior/Parent Recognition Night is included on every graduating student's graduation DVD.
